Tech Talent Tuesdays Calgary: AI Insights from Ambyint and Monark
At Tech Talent Tuesdays: Building Product Advantage with AI on February 3, 2026 in Calgary, two companies demonstrated how they're using AI to solve real problems. Ambyint and Monark showed what actually works in practice, not just theory.
Ambyint: Getting Data Clean Before Using AI
Ferdinand Hingerl, CTO of Ambyint, uses AI to manage thousands of oil and gas wells across North America. However, the most important work happened before any AI got involved.
For instance, Ambyint spent years building systems to pull sensor data from old equipment into a clean, usable format. Only then could they combine expert knowledge, physics models, and AI algorithms to spot problems early and adjust production automatically.
The result? Wells run better with less downtime, produce more, and release less methane into the air.
In fact, Hingerl emphasized that AI alone is not enough. You need domain expertise and engineering knowledge working alongside the algorithms.
Monark: AI-Powered Leadership Coaching
Yash Gupta demonstrated Monark's leadership coaching platform. Similar to Otter.ai↗(Opens in a new tab), they record and transcribe meetings. However, they go further by analyzing communication patterns, providing feedback on management style, and creating AI role-play scenarios for difficult conversations.
Specifically, the system tracks how much each person talks, how often leaders ask questions, and response patterns. Then it gives coaching advice tailored to each leader's needs.
During the Q&A, people asked about privacy and whether AI might give bad advice. In response, Gupta explained they have safeguards in place and carefully validate AI responses before showing them to users.
How Should Frontend, Backend and Full Stack Web Developers Use AI Tools?
As a web developer working with WordPress, React/Next.js, and Sanity.io, these presentations reinforced an important principle.
I use AI tools like GitHub Copilot↗(Opens in a new tab) in VS Code, but they're suggestion engines, not replacements:
For React Development: AI suggests component structures and routing patterns. However, I review to ensure they align with the project's design system and performance requirements.
For WordPress: Similarly, AI drafts content architecture and theme structures. I verify they follow accessibility standards and SEO best practices.
For Code Quality: Additionally, AI scans for potential issues and suggests improvements. I validate recommendations against coding standards and project specifications.
In short, the pattern is clear: AI handles suggestions and repetitive tasks. Developers handle the review, ensure quality, and make final decisions.
Ultimately, this approach works whether you're building a WordPress site, a React/Next.js application, or implementing headless CMSes like Sanity.io. The key is using AI as a productivity tool while maintaining human oversight for quality, consistency, and best practices.
