However, there was one website that wasn't keeping pace with these evolving standards, my own portfolio website!
Why Redesign My Portfolio Website for SEO and AI Search?
During my 7 years as the Senior Web Developer under 2 different ownerships at my previous employer, I project managed and shipped over 18 projects, managed 149 websites, oversaw maintenance for 46 sites, spearheaded the launch of a highly profitable Shopify site, optimized 36 websites for performance and security, and rebranded 7 others. In the last 2.5 years, a mix of both AISO and GEO alongside traditional SEO influenced how the websites were being built. Additionally, I had the opportunity to freelance on a project for a $30 billion public trading company. These experiences and growth as a senior developer fundamentally changed how I approach building websites and how to position the new portfolio website to take advantage of these learnings and apply them to the new AI-enhanced portfolio website.
Over the 7 years between my last portfolio website launch in March 2018 and 2025, it became clear that it no longer represented the frontend web developer I had become. Since then, my web development and digital marketing skills have evolved significantly in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, WordPress, Responsive Web Design (with added Flexbox CSS), WCAG accessibility standards, Semantic HTML5, SEO and created a new design for the new website that's not based on Google's Material Design. The gap between my 2018 portfolio website and my current web development capabilities was too wide to ignore.

What Did an Industry Expert Say About My Website?
The site features Termageddon's Cookie Consent Banner and related website policies, a service I discovered through one of my favorite podcasts called Syntax. Hosted by two industry experts, Wes Bos and Scott Tolinski, their episode "Supper Club × Privacy, Cookie Banners, GDPR with Donata and Hans Skillrud (Episode 607)(Opens in a new tab)" introduced me to this solution. This ensures visitors have full transparency and control over their data, because privacy should never be an afterthought. As an active listener since 2017-2018, I consistently find valuable tools and insights that improve my development process. I've even had the opportunity to connect with Wes and Scott through DMs on Twitter (X) and Instagram from time to time.
Recently, while getting assistance from Hans Skillrud in July 2025, he made this comment about the website: "I absolutely love the design of your dev website. Beyond traditional Search Engine Optimization (SEO), this website includes optimizations for Artificial Intelligence Search Optimization (AISO) and Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) to improve local search and AI-powered search performance.
